Design + Art

‘Design + Art’ is a writing and research based exploration of the intersection of contemporary design and art. Completed as a thesis project during senior studio course (Jan. - May 2015), ideas and work were produced after doing extensive research on existing opinions on the subject matter which was then used to form my own opinions. Experimentation in medium became a driving force in creating work and understanding the similarities and differences between what is understood as "art" and "design." Through my research, I narrowed down my focus to self initiated practices and how technology, language, and process all affect them. Ultimately, this work stems from the personal need for self-identification and an interest in understanding where the work I created in the last three years fits in a larger context.

Installation

The semester led to the presentation of the class's thesis projects at the Graphic Design Senior Show (2015) located at 419 West Broad space in Richmond, VA. My space included my publications, a curated selection of tiny clay objects, vinyl chart & quote, along with a screen-printed mylar flag.

Glossary

‘Glossary’ examines the dual nature of language and how it is applied to both design and art. While some terms seem specific to one field, there is interchangeability in much of the language used. This book serves as a companion to Design + Art, but can also function on its own. Definitions have been written, found, and edited by the author.
